Weekly Market Update – 10.19.2026

Unify Financial Advisors Weekly Market Update

Markets experienced a volatile week as concerns over elevated valuations in technology and artificial intelligence stocks weighed on investor sentiment. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq declined 1.95% and 4.48%, respectively, while the DJIA gained 0.67%. Information technology was the weakest-performing sector, falling 6.60%, while consumer staples, health care, and energy led the market. Geopolitical tensions contributed to rising energy prices, with crude oil climbing 8.27% to $99.02 per barrel. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury yield declined to 5.10%.

Economic data highlighted growing inflationary pressures, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising 0.6% in September and 3.7% over the past year, driven largely by higher energy and gasoline costs. The Producer Price Index (PPI) increased 1.3% for the month and 6.3% annually, marking its largest yearly increase since December 2022. Despite rising prices, consumer spending remained resilient, with retail sales increasing 0.8% in September, while industrial production grew 0.7%. Existing-home sales rose 1.5%, although they remained below levels from earlier this year.
